How to check if ChatGPT recommends your SaaS
Updated November 2, 2026
To check if ChatGPT recommends your SaaS, ask it the questions your buyers actually ask, ask each one several times, and write down which products get named and where. One answer proves little because AI answers change between runs; a pattern across many answers is what matters. You can do this by hand in about an hour, or use Seenpeak to run it for you.
1. Write the questions your buyers ask
- Use buyer wording, not your brand name: "best invoicing tool for freelancers", not "is Acme good".
- Mix three kinds: category ("best X for Y"), problem ("how do I stop Z"), and comparison ("X vs Y", "alternatives to Y").
- Aim for about 10 questions. Fewer and you will miss patterns; many more is hard to track by hand.
2. Ask each question several times, on more than one assistant
- Open a fresh chat for every run so earlier messages don't steer the answer.
- Ask each question at least 3 times on ChatGPT and 3 times on Gemini.
- Don't mention your product in the question. You want to see what a buyer sees.
3. Record who gets named
Use a simple sheet with one row per answer:
- Question, assistant, run number
- Was your product named? Yes or no, and its position in the list
- Which competitors were named
- Which sources or links the answer cited, if any
4. Read the pattern
- Named in most runs: you are visible for that question. Keep the pages that support it current.
- Named sometimes: you are on the edge. Clearer, more specific pages and third-party mentions usually help.
- Never named while one competitor keeps appearing: look at what that competitor has that you don't, such as comparison pages, reviews, or a plain statement of who it is for.
5. Fix a few things, then retest the same questions
Pick at most three changes backed by what you saw, ship them, and rerun the exact same questions later. Changing the questions between rounds makes the comparison meaningless. Visibility gains aren't guaranteed, and AI assistants can take time to pick up changes.
Doing it automatically
Seenpeak runs this exact process for you: 10 buyer questions on ChatGPT and Gemini, 3 answers each (60 answers per round), compared with up to one competitor, with 0 to 3 evidence-based actions and one same-scope retest included. It costs $19 one-time, no subscription. See pricing and scope.
FAQ
Can I just ask ChatGPT once whether it recommends my product?
No. A single answer can differ from the next one. Ask the same buyer question several times in fresh chats and look at how often you are named.
Should I include my brand name in the question?
No. Buyers usually ask about the category or the problem. Asking about your brand directly tells you what the assistant knows about you, not whether it recommends you.
Why check Gemini as well as ChatGPT?
Different assistants draw on different sources and can recommend different products for the same question, so checking two gives a fuller picture.
How long does a manual check take?
Ten questions, three runs each on two assistants, is 60 answers. Expect roughly an hour to run and record them by hand.
